Dying Matters at Work
As we’ll be focusing on Dying Matters at Work this year, it's an opportunity for your organisation, as a corporate partner of Hospice UK, to demonstrate to your employees and other organisations the importance of building an open, compassionate culture to support staff through grief, caring responsibilities, or a life-limiting illness.
How you and your organisation can get involved
There are plenty of easy and engaging ways in which you and your organisation, as a partner of Hospice UK, can get involved in this year's Dying Matters at Work campaign:
-
At 11.30 am on 11 May, How to talk about death at work will provide you and your colleagues with practical advice, tips and tricks on how to start workplace conversations on this often taboo subject.
Hosted by our Compassionate Employers programme, this webinar will feature Simon Blake, CEO Mental Health First Aid England and Dying Matters Chair, Aongola Victor Simuyemba, Bereavements Lead at Monzo and Faith Holloway, Compassionate Employers Programme Lead.
And why not share with the rest of your organisation? Here's a suggested paragraph that you can use in your internal communications.
Stigma around grieving, and a lack of understanding about what happens when you’re dying, mean that too many of us are struggling to cope when faced with life’s inevitable challenges. And the workplace is no exception.
We spend so much of our lives at work – and we shouldn’t have to hide our experiences of death and dying from our colleagues, our peers, or our bosses. We want to create open and compassionate society where we are comfortable facing the realities of dying, death and grief.
But talking about this can be hard, especially with colleagues. This Dying Matters Awareness Week, join Hospice UK's Compassionate Employers programme in How to talk about death at work - a webinar that will provide practical advice on how to start workplace conversations on this often taboo subject.
Thursday 11th May 2023, 11.30 am - 12.30 pm.

We've created a Compassionate Superpower online quiz - which will be launched during Dying Matters Awareness Week. This quiz helps people to have meaningful and compassionate conversations with other people, and take these skills to the workplace.
During Dying Matters Awareness Week, you can share the quiz with your organisation, and encourage people to take part. We'll share the link here once the quiz has been launched.
-
We couldn't do any of this alone. Join the #DyingMattersAtWork conversation on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.
Want to share on your own LinkedIn? We've got example posts and graphics for you to use.

Staff sharing their real experiences on this topic will help engage more people in your organisation. Do you know colleagues who’d be happy to share their experiences of talking about death at work as part of your internal comms around Dying Matters Awareness Week?
Do let us know if we can help you with this - email us.
