Hospice UK’s communications team is here to work with you, offer advice, share our materials and co-ordinate key moments in the year, including Dying Matters Awareness Week and Hospice Care Week.
How we can help you
We’re the national charity for hospice and end of life care, and we use our national platform to celebrate the fantastic work of hospices, and to champion the mission of good quality end of life care for all.
-
We’re keen to celebrate your successes and innovations and we love to share your stories on our channels. In general, we focus on sharing stories about innovation in hospice care, equality and inclusion, and stories that challenge the misconceptions that exist about hospices.
With more than 200 hospices in the UK who are members of Hospice UK, we sadly don’t have the capacity to share many fundraising stories, or more general stories about hospice care.
-
Part of Hospice UK’s role is to connect hospice professionals across the UK – and that includes non-clinical colleagues in communications and fundraising roles.
We are particularly keen to help share knowledge, ideas and innovations in hospice communications work, and to work together to make the most of communications and media opportunities, and manage any risks the sector faces.
If there’s something big happening in your patch, and you think other hospices should know about it, please let us know.

We regularly work with member hospices on content collection visits and media stories.
If you are able to host visits of this nature (especially at short notice when the national media come calling), then please let us know. We keep a ‘speed dial’ database of hospices we call when an opportunity comes up, and we are always looking to expand this.

-
We also rely on hospices to bring some of our key campaigns to life – especially Dying Matters and Hospice Care Week. If you’re planning activities for those campaigns, or would like to get some advice,

We also run a programme of conferences and events, and many of these are relevant for communications colleagues as well as clinical professionals.
-
As a rule we are always happy to share pictures, film and other assets with our members. If there is a piece of our content you’d like to use, please contact us.
We love it when you are able to share with us too. We don’t provide clinical services ourselves, so access to rich material to tell the story of hospice care is invaluable for us.

Our CharityComms membership benefits you too
As a member of Hospice UK, you can access our membership of CharityComms. CharityComms provide fantastic resources and a brilliant programme of events, training and conferences, as well as an excellent mentoring scheme.
Call CharityComms to let them know you are a Hospice UK member.
Crisis communications toolkit
Our Crisis Communications toolkit, last updated in 2018, provides a comprehensive overview of managing a PR crisis in a hospice context. Every scenario is unique – but our guide should give you some good rules of thumb, and helpful preparation tips.
We are always at the end of the phone or email too if you want to let us know about a challenging situation in your area, or simply as a sounding board.
