More information
Talking about death, dying and bereavement is hard. It can feel awkward or uncomfortable and sometimes, you just don’t know what to say.
We want people to use libraries as safe and trusted spaces to share stories and start supportive conversations about death, dying and loss.
Many more of us than usual have experienced bereavement during the recent COVID pandemic and may still feel unable to talk about this.
During May, we will be marking Dying Matters Awareness Week, a national initiative which encourages people to talk about death, bereavement and loss. As part of Dying Matters Week, we are bringing our ‘Death Positive Libraries’ project to Dewsbury Library on 3 May.
We will be holding an afternoon drop-in session in partnership The Kirkwood, creating a supported environment for people to have a cup of tea, talk, listen and share.
There will be a wide variety of books and poems to read and browse and these will highlight how books can shine a light on different experiences of death and how reading can encourage empathy and understanding.
The event is open to anyone, will be informal and is on a completely drop-in basis. Refreshments will be available.
Please join us anytime between 1.00pm – 4pm at Dewsbury Library. If you would like more information please contact us on 01484 414868 or email Dewsbury.lic@kirklees.gov.uk
