Marie Curie is delighted to invite you to an upcoming webinar on death literacy in Northern Ireland.

The event will cover key findings from a new research report on death literacy levels in Northern Ireland from Marie Curie, the School of Psychology, Queen’s University Belfast (QUB) and other researchers*. There will also be contributions from international experts in the field of death literacy and a personal perspective on the importance of death literacy from someone in Northern Ireland.

Death literacy is the knowledge, skills and awareness of issues concerning death, dying, end of life care and bereavement. It is a little-discussed concept in Northern Ireland, but a crucial one that will significantly impact the end of life and bereavement experiences of every person who lives and dies here. Our new report finds that there are important gaps in death literacy among the NI population, with too many people unprepared for the end of life and unaware of where and when they can access support when they’re impacted by death, dying and bereavement.

The webinar will explore these issues and what Northern Ireland can learn from international evidence to foster greater levels of death literacy among the local population.

Confirmed speakers for the event include:

  • Dr Kerrie Noonan – clinical psychologist, researcher and Director of the Death Literacy Institute in Australia
  • Patricia Donnelly – Chair of the Northern Ireland Bereavement Network
  • Dr Lisa Graham-Wisner – Lecturer at the School of Psychology, Queen’s University Belfast
  • Craig Harrison – Policy Manager at Marie Curie Northern Ireland

Delegates will also hear from other death literacy experts and there will be an opportunity to take part in a Q&A session with our speaking panel.
